Do you know London Grammar is coming to Beirut?

You have surely come across this trio’s smashing hit Nightcall or  recognized them from Hannah Reid’s brooding and eatheral vocals. The humble trio opened for Coldplay during the SXSW iTunes Festival back in April and have been gaining critical-acclaim for the past year. I’ve linked some of my favorite of theirs below.

If you really like them, you’ll get the chance to see them play live on September 20th in BIEL. I’ll surely be there!

Do you know James Bay?

James Bay, a young singer-songwriter, hasn’t officially launched an album yet. However, his two EPs ‘The Dark Side of the Morning’ and ‘Let it Go’ are growing a steady following. His smooth & tender voice, raw & expressive lyrics and minimal sound come together so magically.

Can’t get enough of this guy..give him a listen

Do you know Rae Morris?

This teenage singer-songwriter is insanely talented. The Blackpool native’s voice is so raw and powerful for someone so young. I’ve linked my favorite tracks below but really I haven’t come across a song I didn’t like. Her genuine and ethereal sound stems  having found a voice she didn’t know she had. Do give her a listen, in my opinion, she is onto something great.

Let me know what you think:

Do you know James Vincent McMorrow?

The Irish singer-songwriter released his debut album titled Early in the Morning  in February 2010.  He is a self-taught singer, who learned how to hit the proper notes sitting at a piano. McMorrow developed his album really slow, generating and experimenting with ideas for 6 months while living in isolation. His sound could be categorized as indie/folk and he really reminds me of Bon Iver ( both similar in the way they wrote their albums, no studio engineering, just their vocals and instruments). Below are my favorites of his

Considering the fact that the young artist learned English on his own; His lyrics and voice are burdened by the struggles of the Somali crisis, carrying the message through his conscious rapping and protest poetry.

This post is in honor of World Refugee Day which took place on June 20th.
